User Guide
Overview
Blindfold Barnyard is a fully accessible matching game, for both sighted and visually impaired people, designed for rapid audio play.
The object of the game is to move each group of animals to a fence, and then move them into the barn.
You control this game using iPhone gestures.
First, in the main menu, select one of the Barnyard games.
Playing with Compass or Clock Directions
Press your finger on the screen, and Blidnfold Barnyard will tell you where the closest animal is.
Compass directions are announced by default; you can change this in settings to clock directions.
When you find an animal you want to move, drag it to north, south, east or west fence.
Fences are at the top, bottom and sides of the screen.
If you find the animals are too small to find, you can change the size in the settings screen.
When you have collected enough of the animals by a fence, you can move them into the barn by swiping 2 fingers towards that fence.
For each animal you moved to the fence, you get an additional point.
For example, one cow gives you one point, two cows gives you 3 points, 3 cows gives you 6 points, 4 cows give you 10 points, 5 cows gives 15 points, 10 cows gives 55 points,
20 cows gives 210 points, and so on.
To gain the most number of points, collect as many animals at the fence as you can before moving them into the barn.
If you try to move an animal to a fence where other animals have already been hitched, all of the animals will scatter outside of the barnyard – they are gone forever – and you lose one point for each animal lost.
When you have found an animal, you will hear a ding, indicating that you can start dragging the animal a fence.
If you don’t hear the ding, the animal won’t be dragged, pushed or otherwise cajoled into moving.
If you happen to touch the animal as soon as you finger touched the screen, you will hear ding ding, and you can start dragging the animal to a fence.
If you want to find a different animal, lift your finger and search somewhere else.
New animals will randomly appear in the barnyard, and you can control the speed of new animals in the settings screen.
Each time a new animal appears, you’ll hear a zip-pop-bop sound.
Sometimes you just want to collect animals in a group, without hitching them to the fence, since all four fences might be occupied by other animals.
If you drag an animal very close to a fence, but not all the way to the fence, the animal will run back to the barnyard.
If you drag an animal somewhere in the barnyard, but not near a fence, the animal will stay where you put it.
In the SETTINGS screen, you can change how close to the fence you can drag an animal, without it scurrying back to the barnyard.
When you press your finger on the screen, the game tells you in which direction the closest animal is.
Once you start tracking that closest animal, you will continue to hear its direction until you find it.
You may pass over other animals on the way to the animal you want, but they won’t make a sound while your finger is still pressed on the screen, tracking the original animal.
You can turn off directional tracking in the settings screen.
If there are no animals in the barnyard, you will hear a honk when you press your finger.
To find out how many animals are in the barnyard, and at each fence, press with 3 fingers.
Playing without Compass or Clock Directions
Not using the compass or clock directions is much more challenging.
Use the SETTINGS screen to shut off directions.
You need to use your real-world exploration strategies to find each animal in the barnyard.
Divide the screen into sections in your mind, and then, working from the bottom to the top of the screen, search for an animal.
When you finger passes over an animal, it bark, moo, neigh, or make whatever sound it wants.
To move that animal, keep pressing your finger on that animal for about a second, and you will hear a ding.
Then you can drag that animal to a fence, or elsewhere in the barnyard.
Now you are ready to play your first game – start with Beginner Game, Cow, No Time Limit.
In this game, two cows are randomly placed in the barnyard, and another will appear every 15 seconds.
To help you keep track of time, a timer will twang once a minute; you can change how often the timer twangs in settings.
Move all the cows to a fence, and have fun.
To go back to the main menu, swipe up with 3 fingers.
