How to Play
Introduction
Roulette has been played in one form or another for centuries. The iconic wheel is thought to have once contained as few as 31 numbers, though it now typically has either 37 (in Europe) or 38 (in the United States), meaning the odds of success vary slightly depending on which variant you are playing. The game’s evolution has seen it become a staple of modern casinos the world over.
Game Play and Game Rules
To win at roulette the player needs to predict where the ball will land after each spin. This is by no means easy. In fact, luck plays an important part in this game. Some players go with the winning numbers calling them ‘hot’ numbers and therefore likely to come up more times. Others see which numbers did not come up for some time and bet on them believing that their turn is now due. Some players bet on many numbers to increase their chances of winning at every spin, but this way the payout is considerably reduced. Other methodical players use specific roulette systems or methods, money management systems, or both.
To beginners, roulette betting can appear quite confusing, with so many different ways to place your bets. In fact, the betting rules are simple, and can be summed up as follows:
You can wager on any number, or combination of numbers.
For winning bets, the original wager is returned to your account, plus the payout you receive based on the amount staked and the odds information listed below. Losing bets will be lost.
The game starts by placing one or more bets. After you have placed all your bets, you spin the wheel in one direction and the ball in the other. It takes about 10 seconds for the ball and the wheel to slow down, and then the ball lands in one of the 38 pockets on the wheel. The number of the pocket where the ball lands is the winning number.
The payout varies based on how many numbers are included in your bet. For example, a single number usually pay out at 35 to 1, and a group of 18 numbers usually pays out at 1 to 1. Refer to the Wheels and Payoffs guide for details on each type of wheel and the associated payout.
Let’s say that you think the ball will land on 5. You could place your bet on the 5, and if it comes up, you’ll win 35 times your original bet.
If you think the ball will land on either a 4,5,6, you could place your bet on that combination of numbers, and if either a 4, or a 5 or a 6 comes up, you’ll win 11 times your original bet. If you think the ball will land on any of 1,2,3,4,5,6, you could place your bet on that combination of numbers, and if any of those numbers come up, you’ll win 5 times your bet.
